A Funeral Service for Wanda Jean (Hughes) Rhoads will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Grace Baptist Church on Shelley Road in Clinton. The service will be officiated by Rev. Denton Walker, under the compassionate guidance of The Lee Hometown Funeral Home. Wanda will be laid to rest in Clinton Cemetery following the service.
Wanda Jean was born in Clinton on December 16, 1945, to Harmon and Almeda (Driscoll) Hughes. She peacefully passed away in her sleep on August 15, 2024, in her beloved home. A lifelong resident of Clinton, Wanda cherished the community she grew up in and dedicated her life to its service and its people.
A proud 1964 graduate of Clinton High School, Wanda married the love of her life, Rusty Rhoads, on August 12, 1962. Their 61 years together were filled with love, joy, and countless cherished memories.
In her early years, Wanda’s nurturing spirit shone brightly as she babysat for numerous families, maintaining those relationships throughout her life. Her warm personality also graced the dining establishments of Clinton, where she worked at Daniels Drive-In, Del Rancho, and Vick’s Café. Her passion for service led her to Clinton Public Schools, where she dedicated many years as a cook at Washington Elementary before retiring.
Wanda’s heart was always with children, dancing, and cultivating magnificent gardens. Her legacy of love and care lives on through her family and the countless lives she touched.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents and her great-nephew, Matt Hughes. She is survived by her devoted husband Rusty, her son Vaudy Rhoads of Clinton, her daughter Rhonda and her husband Paul Nowlin of Clinton, her sister Marilyn and her husband Russell Clark of Weatherford, her brother C.H. Hughes and his wife Lela of Cordell, OK, and her cherished grandchildren: Arron Nowlin of Clinton, Zachary Nowlin and his wife Krysta of Kingfisher, OK, Rowdy Rhoads of Weatherford, and Charidee Grimes and her husband Andrew of Stratford, TX. She also leaves behind nine beloved great-grandchildren.
Wanda Jean’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
