Patricia Kay OverbyJune 18, 1934 – April 14, 2025
Patricia Kay Overby, 90, a beloved longtime resident of Dill City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Cordell Memorial Hospital.
Patricia, lovingly known as Kay to family, was born on June 18, 1934, in Kemp, Oklahoma, to Hubert and Clara Merle (Wilson) Howard. She grew up in Kemp before moving to Borger, Texas, in her junior year of high school. She graduated from Borger High School in 1952—the same year she married the love of her life, Lloyd Overby, on July 11 in Borger and were blessed with 65 years of marriage.
A devoted Christian, Patricia Kay was a member of the Dill City Church of Christ. She and Lloyd served churches across the country, ministering in Concord, New Hampshire; Imperial, Nebraska; Anadarko, Oklahoma; Vernon and Bowie, Texas; Mangum, Oklahoma; and ultimately settling in Dill City. Their passion for spreading the Gospel also led them to international missionary work in Belize and Ukraine for 12 years during the summers. Lloyd and Patricia Kay worked with the Dill City Church for close to 30 years where they found close friendships they considered family.
Patricia Kay was known for her joyful spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family. She loved quilting, sewing (often making matching Christmas outfits for her granddaughters), and cooking for her loved ones. Her happiest moments were when her entire family gathered together—most recently for her 90th birthday celebration. She once told her granddaughter that her favorite age was 65, because she had her kids and grandkids bringing her whole life together while she was still heathy and able to enjoy them.
She enjoyed teaching Bible school to many children over the years including Ryan and Eric Linn. Her wisdom, gentle guidance (only offered when asked), and warm laughter made a lasting impact on everyone she met, especially her family.
Patricia Kay played a pivotal role in raising her six sisters and brothers and was the heart of the tightly bonded Howard family. She was patient, slow to anger, and a shining example of Christian grace. As her brother Dennis often lovingly said, “That lady there was the best woman I ever knew.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Lloyd Overby, brothers David and Dennis Howard, and brothers-in-law Vigil Hynes, Bill Nickens, and Jerry Tucker.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Lanny Overby and his wife Darla of Wichita Falls, Texas; daughter Sheryl Kenimer and her husband Kris of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; sisters Lela Hynes, Myrna Nickens, and Reba Tucker, all of Borger, Texas; brother Danny Howard and his wife Brenda of Mena, Arkansas; grandchildren Tara Lynne Heeney, Kaysi Hendley, Kaytlin Froneberger, Traci Fowler, and Carson Overby-Reynolds; and great-grandchildren Nathan, Koy, Emily, Jet, Ryan, Jaxon, and Ike Howard.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Dill City Church of Christ officiated by Ryan Driscoll. Burial will follow at South Burns Cemetery near Dill City under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home.
Patricia Kay Overby leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, and family that will live on for generations.
