Obituary of Kirk Douglas Miller

Kirk Douglas Miller, age 65, lifelong Clinton and Arapaho resident, was born May 24, 1959, in Clinton, to Buddy and Laverle (Newcomb) Miller. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in his Clinton residence.

A devoted member of the Cornerstone Church and First Christian Church, Kirk was known for his generosity, community spirit and tall tales. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Cornerstone Church in Clinton, officiated by Roy Dobbs, and under the direction of the Lee Hometown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.

Raised in rural Arapaho, Kirk graduated from Arapaho High School in 1977, where he was active and overly competitive in the FFA, basketball and baseball programs. He was a recipient of the American FFA Degree. He continued his education at Oklahoma State University, earning an Agricultural Economics degree in 1981. During his college years, he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.

Professionally, Kirk was a banker by trade and an active farmer and cattleman. In 1986, he was selected to participate in the Oklahoma Agricultural Leadership program which toured Brazil for their international seminar. His passion for the land and agriculture was evident throughout his life. Kirk had a gift for captivating an audience and enjoyed telling them all about his bumper cotton crops.

Kirk was an avid fisherman, hunter and a natural storyteller, known for his friendly nature and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Laverle Miller, and his grandparents, Pete and Lena Miller, and Ralph and Edythe Newcomb.

He leaves behind a loving family, his daughters Jaclyn Christensen and her husband Trey, and Kelsey Merz and her husband Kelby and his son Kolby Miller and his wife McKenzie; his cherished grandchildren Calvin and Harris Christensen, Emory and Blair Merz and Charlotte and Griffin Miller; his sister Debbie Matz and her husband Perry; his brother Kent Miller and his wife Valerie; niece Kasi Westfahl and nephews Derek Matz, Mason Miller and Garrison Miller.

Though he has left this world, his stories – some true, some exaggerated and some outright impossible – will live on for generations to come.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Arapaho-Butler FFA (PO Box 160, Arapaho, OK 73620) in memory of Kirk Miller.
