Weatherford, Oklahoma

Jodi Janae Sankadota Age 36, lifelong resident of Weatherford, passed away in a tragic accident Saturday, December 14, 2024 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Weatherford Indian Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jerry Parnicher and Rev. Mona Bearshield, under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford. A traditional all-night wake will begin at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 22, 2024.

Jodi was raised in Weatherford, where she was a standout basketball player for the Lady Eagles, graduating from Weatherford High School in 2006. She was a devoted member of the Weatherford Indian Baptist Church and worked for the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. Jodi also served her community as a housekeeper at several local motels.

Deeply connected to her heritage, Jodi embraced her Native traditions. She was a proud pow-wow princess and loved dancing at tribal events. She participated in hand games and she played on the Oklahoma Indian Hand Games team. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother and spending time with her beloved family. As the youngest of her siblings, Jodi held a special place in the hearts of her family members, who lovingly spoiled her throughout her life.

Jodi was preceded in death by her father, Jasper Sankadota Jr.; maternal grandparents, Belva Hicks and Jay Gould; paternal grandparents, Jasper Sankadota Sr. and Etheline Haumpy Sankadota; adopted father, Melvin Jody Stevens; and adopted brother, Jody Stevens. (her namesake)

She is survived by her loving mother, Lula Sankadota of Weatherford; her companion, Donald Two Babies of Weatherford; her two cherished daughters, Sweetie Shawnee and Talulah Sankadota, both of Weatherford; her sisters, Cheryl Bernal of Oklahoma City, Cathy Sankadota of Weatherford, Kristy Warledo of Weatherford, and Mariah Sankadota of Pryor, OK; her brother, Jasper Sankadota III of Weatherford; her adopted mother, Mary Lou Stevens; and adopted sisters, Tracy Rose and Tina Littleman, all of El Reno, OK.

Jodi leaves behind a legacy of love, tradition, and family, which she held dear. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
