A funeral service for Janet Alice Sawatzky, age 80, of Clinton, will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Cornerstone Church, officiated by Jarod Nunn and under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at the Clinton Cemetery.
Janet Alice Sawatzky, a beloved and caring woman, was born on February 21, 1944, in Putnam, Oklahoma, to Howard Ellis and Lela Maggie (Brown) Horrocks. She passed away early Thursday morning, December 12, 2024, at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Raised in Putnam, Janet graduated in 1962 and married the love of her life, Ray P. Sawatzky, on May 21 of that same year in Clinton. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and hard work in Clinton, where she resided for the rest of her life.
A devoted member of Cornerstone Church, Janet found immense joy in serving others, often preparing meals for church events and lending a helping hand wherever needed. Her strong work ethic was evident throughout her life. She spent a decade at Kellwood’s factory before establishing her own housecleaning business, where she formed lasting bonds with her customers. Later, Janet worked at the funeral home, greeting families with kindness and compassion.
Janet’s giving spirit knew no bounds. She delighted in helping others, from decorating the graves of loved ones to sewing Christmas stockings for family and friends. A true partner to Ray, she contributed to farm life by driving tractors, hauling livestock, cutting wheat, and gardening. Her hard work and resourcefulness were matched only by her love for her family and community.
An athlete in her younger years, Janet enjoyed playing basketball and remained active throughout her life. She cherished her family, friends, and her loyal four-legged companion, Skip.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Lela Horrocks; her husband, Ray P. Sawatzky; her son, Pete Sawatzky; her sisters, Cora Johnson and Martha Brennan; and her brother, Harvey Horrocks.
She is survived by her daughters, Lavon Overton and her husband Pat of Weatherford, and Casey Sawatzky of Weatherford; her grandchildren, Jessica Fleming and her husband Matt of Piedmont, Dillon Overton and his wife Morgan of Norman, Dustin Overton and his wife Catie of Weatherford, Grace Guadarrama and her husband David of Weatherford, Tarren Cummins and her companion Austin Long of Norman, Hope Miller and her husband Chandler of Clinton, and Wyatt Sawatzky-Willoughby of Clinton; and her cherished dog, Skip.
Janet’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and devotion to her family, friends, and community. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will receive guest from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon.
