In Loving Memory of Imogene “Vicki” Herndon

Imogene “Vicki” Herndon, age 65, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024, at Southwest Medical Center in Lawton. She was born on February 10, 1959, in Clinton to Jody and Jeanette (Oldcrow) Pewo Sr.

Raised in Ramona and Hammon, Oklahoma, Vicki graduated from Ramona High School in 1978. She later pursued her studies in business at Oklahoma State University. Imogene was the proud owner of several Trading Post businesses in Hammon, Cheyenne, and Taos, NM, where she specialized in Native American arts and crafts, fashion design, and authentic 1800s native replicas.

On June 16, 1984, Imogene married her soulmate, Damon Herndon, in Durango, Colorado. She was a devoted member of the Hammon Assembly of God Church and held membership in both the Cheyenne and Comanche Tribes. Known for her selflessness, Imogene had a calling from God to help those in need. She often opened her home to others, providing meals and nurturing children in her family when they needed support.

Imogene had a passion for gardening, cooking, and music. She was deeply spiritual and was well-known for her prayers for those in her life. A nurturing figure to many, she embodied the spirit of motherhood for all who knew her. Imogene was a proud descendant of Happy Calf Oldcrow (her maternal grandmother) and Chief Henry Elk River (her grandfather).

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Jody Pewo Jr., and her adopted father Richard Lloyd. Imogene is survived by her loving husband Damon Herndon, her adopted mother Jeannie Lloyd of Clinton, daughters Tiffany Holbrook of Springfield, MO., Rachel Lynn and her companion Reggie Wassana of Thomas, and Sarah Herndon and her husband Zach Fobb of Lawton. She also leaves behind her sons Damon Herndon Jr. and his wife Trudy of Clinton, and Mark Herndon of Clinton. Imogene is survived by her last aunt, Lily Kauley of Hammon, brothers Tony “Popeye” Gardner of Clinton and David Gardner of Pagosa Springs, CO, as well as ten grandchildren: Quinten, Kyla, Jurnee, Daelyn, Evalee, Adrian, Humilyiah, Krystal, Janie, Amelia “Molly,” and two great-grandchildren, Anikan and Serena.

Funeral services will be held at the Clinton ERC building at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 5, 2024, officiated by Dolan Ivy, with arrangements made by Lee Hometown Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery, and a traditional all-night wake service will take place Thursday evening starting at 7:00 PM also at the Clinton ERC building.
