Obituary for Bruce Edward Spencer

Bruce Edward Spencer, age 79, of Butler, OK, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the Great Plains Hospital in Elk City. Born on June 6, 1945, in Clinton, in the old hospital on 8th street, Bruce was the beloved son of Arnold K. and Ada Louise (Smith) Spencer.

Raised in Butler, Bruce spent the majority of his life in his cherished hometown. He graduated from Butler High School in 1963 and went on to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). With a strong sense of duty and patriotism, Bruce served our country by enlisting in the Army National Guard.

On June 18, 1965, Bruce married the love of his life, Pamela Dalke, and together they built a life filled with love and commitment. Bruce was an active member of his community, participating in organizations such as the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, the Soil Conservation Board, and the John Deere Two Cylinder Club. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he remained a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Butler.

Bruce farmed until the age of 55, after which he dedicated ten years working for Custer County District III. Upon retiring from the county, he found joy in restoring antique John Deere tractors, at one point owning over 100 of these treasured machines. His passion extended to helping and teaching others about tractor restoration.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Bruce co-operated S&S Goose Guide Services with his friend Sam Shelton. Every December, he would travel to Belize with his hunting buddies to enjoy fishing adventures. Beyond his love for the outdoors, Bruce was a devoted traveler, having visited every state in the U.S. except Alaska.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold K. and Ada Louise Spencer. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela, of their home in Butler; his son, Kirk Spencer of Butler; his sister, Carolyn Archer, and her husband, H.R., of Elk City; and his brother, Brad Spencer, and his wife, Jennifer, of Butler.

Services to honor Bruce's life will be held at the Butler Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. February 16, 2025, and will be officiated by Lake Carpenter. Arrangements are under the direction of Lee Hometown Funeral Home.

Bruce's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for his community will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
